Pintade

What the French call "Pintade", and the Italians call "Faraone", are commonly known as Guinea Fowl. Named after its original home range in coastal Western Africa, guinea fowl have an ancient history. As far back as 2400 BC they were inscribed on the temples of the ancient Egyptians and were later raised by the Egyptians in incubators. By 400 BC guineas were raised by the Greeks, and the ancient Romans considered both guinea meat and guinea eggs delicacies.

Our Ashley Farms Pintades are from a French guinea breeding stock. The French, who consume more guineas per capita than any other country, rear guineas for choice meat.

In fact, the French guinea is considered to be the best meat guinea. The meat is light and delicate, similar to chicken but perceptibly more flavorful, without any obvious "gamey" qualities.

Our Ashley Farms Pintade are raised on small family farms in the Piedmont region of North Carolina, using our stringent growing and processing standards. No hormones, growth stimulants, antibiotics, drugs, or any other artificial products are administered to these birds, and they are fed only wholesome natural grains with no animal by-products. Strict attention to food safety and operational sanitation applies to the processing and packing procedures, and our aging process ensures a moist and tender meat.

Ashley Farms is proud to introduce our Pintade to the fine dining and specialty retail markets.
